Tykewriter Digest, July 2023
The first quarterly news and writings from journalist and SFF author Mark Cantrell
CONSIDER this my author newsletter, though like the Tome of an Obscure Scribbler itself, it's only just taking shape.
Even so, it does have a history. Tykewriter Digest began on my more serious, journalistic venture, outHouse right here on Substack.
Then as now, it serves up a digest of my writings elsewhere on the web. Primarily, this means my author website, but it does include other sites where I occasionally share my work.
This time, though, I'll be adding any relevant news and updates about my writing and publishing exploits.
Such snippets tend to be few and far between, I'll admit – one of the reasons why I held off starting a newsletter for so long – but there's always my articles to be going on with.
So, without further ado, here's Tykewriter Digest.

Tales on Trent, see you there?
NOT to wish the Summer away, but there's something to look forward to in September when I'll be one of the attending authors at Tales on Trent.
The book signing event brings together over 60 authors from across the UK, representing a rich variety of genres.
There's science fiction, fantasy and horror; plenty of time for a little romance, some crime, thrillers, and something for young adults to enjoy, too. It promises a delightful mix.
People are front and centre, though. Tales on Trent is a place where readers can meet authors and just shoot the breeze about their mutual passion – books.
Held right here in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire (almost literally just down the road from where I live), the event is the brainchild of organiser, Claire Birkin.
Claire recently took the time to speak to Tome of an Obscure Scribbler about the event, so look out for the coming article where she'll explain more about the origins and reasoning behind this gregarious venture.
Meanwhile, for those of you local enough to attend, here's the details:
Tales on Trent,
Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
Venue: King's Hall, Kingsway, near the Civic Centre, Stoke, ST4 1JH
When: Saturday, 2 September 2023, 10.30am to 4.30pm
